While I have been participating in the Twin Cities Walk to Defeat ALS since 2013, 2016 was the year we formed Team Bob’s Bunch. Most of you know my dad died of ALS in 2013. No one lived like Bob and we wish that no one ever had to die like him. When dad told us his diagnosis in late 2012, we knew his life would change drastically from this terrible disease as our grandfather (Bob’s dad) had also died of ALS.
Is it inherited? In about 10% of cases it is; in about 90% of cases it does not appear to be. Although the outpouring of funding from the Ice Bucket Challenge helped researchers identify more genes that are involved in Lou Gehrig’s disease, we still don’t know if our family has an unfortunate coincidence or a truly genetic legacy.
Either way, Bob’s Bunch needs your help! The money we raise as a team supports members of our community with ALS, funds important research, and raises awareness for this crippling disease. Please consider making a donation and/or joining our team to fundraise along with us. Together Bob’s Bunch can make a difference and work to Stomp Out ALS!
